Description

This book grew from the Then & Now monthly feature in the weekly micro-magazine The Vulture. Larry Holland, the co-publisher and photographer, and Anne Collins, write a weekly feature on local history in the publication. Every month Anne Collins submits an old photograph or postcard along with a short article and Larry Holland locates and photographs what is currently there and writes a short article. Over ninety photographs of Bellows Falls & Surrounding Tows, Villages and Hamlets are featured, spanning from November of 2010 until June of 2014. After about a year of doing the features, Anne and Larry realized they had a growing collection of Then & Now pictures. They decided to look into the possibility of publishing a book. Within a few months of this decision, Anne Collins was contacted by Fonthill inquiring if she was interested in producing a book for their America Through Time series. Although this book is finished, the Then & Now project continues.

New Hope for American Art was authored, designed and published by James M. Alterman, an expert in the field of Pennsylvania Impressionist and Modernist painting. A longtime collector and owner of two fine art galleries, Alterman wanted to create a user-friendly book intended not only to educate collectors and enthusiasts about this art but to help train one's eye. The book offers valuable tips on how to avoid common mistakes often experienced by new collectors drawn from the author's personal experiences as a collector and fine art dealer.
