Head to the mountains of China to study panda bears in this beautiful nonfiction field guide for kids.

You might know that pandas like to snack on bamboo, but there’s so much more to find out about this mysterious black-and-white bear! Turn the pages to discover where pandas like to spend their summers, and how cute they are as newly-born cubs.

Filled with simple science and plenty of animal facts, this book also explains how poaching and deforestation made pandas an endangered species—and what needs to be done to protect their habitats in the future.

Written by giant panda expert Vanessa Hull, and featuring stunning illustrations by Charlotte Molas, Giant Panda (Young Zoologist) is part of an exciting new series of animal books from Neon Squid aiming to inspire the next generation of biologists and conservationists.

About the Author

Vanessa Hull was five years old when she was given a stuffed panda toy, which ignited a lifelong passion. Today she is an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida and has spent her career studying giant pandas in the forests of China.

Charlotte Molas is a French illustrator who splits her time between Paris and Biarritz. Her colorful illustrations are inspired by Matisse, the Art Déco movement, and pop culture. She spends her time working on books and magazines, and putting on exhibitions of her work. Her name is pronounced “Mola” without the "s", and it means "You rock" in Spanish.

Neon Squid creates beautiful nonfiction books for inquisitive kids (and kids at heart). We believe the most amazing stories are real ones, so our books are for children who want to decipher ancient scrolls, orbit distant stars, and dive into the deepest oceans. Our books are a labor of love—written by experts, illustrated by the best artists around, and produced using the finest materials, including sustainably sourced paper. We hope that by reading them kids are encouraged to further explore the world around them.

Praise For…

"There’s plenty in these 32 pages to learn and amuse. I can see this book being very popular across the entire primary school... this well produced book, with its striking cover and adorable end papers, is a good addition to any primary school library and many a classroom book corner." -- Books For Topics

Praise for the Young Zoologist series:
"What makes this series stand out is that the illustrations, bite-sized facts, and clear labels make it easy for the youngest of readers to navigate the text and absorb the information there." -- Booklist

"The well-illustrated Young Zoologist series guides readers through the lives and notable features of the spotlighted animals... prepares the young zoologist (aka the reader) for their upcoming adventure in the field, laying out tools necessary for investigating the animal. The bright, semi-realistic artwork could hold these titles on its own, but the easily digestible facts regarding life cycle, behavior, and conservation make the volumes well rounded. Each work is pragmatic in addressing the challenges these creatures face while helping aspiring zoologists learn ways to protect animals and their environments." --Booklist
