Farley's First Thursday, New Hope

Poetry Reading Series


On Thursday, April 6, Farley’s Bookshop in New Hope, PA will feature a troupe of poets: Autumn Konopka, Laren McClung, and Bernadette McBride beginning at 7 PM. The reading is followed by a Q&A with the poets and an open reading (one poem per poet), so bring a poem (yours or that of a favorite poet) to share!

Autumn Konopka is the 2016 Montgomery County Poet Laureate. She has published work in Literary Mama, Crab Orchard Review, Philadelphia Stories, Apiary, Mad Poets Review, and others. Her chapbook a chain of paper dolls was released by the Head & the Hand Press (Philadelphia) in 2014. She is a professor of English and creative writing who has also led writing workshops in schools, detention centers, bookstores, and beyond. She has an MFA in Poetry from Antioch University in Los Angeles. Autumn currently curates the Arthur Krasnow Poets and Poetry Series in Elkins Park, Pa, and serves on the Board of the Philadelphia Writers’ Conference.  She is also a wife, mother, runner, coffee addict, and connoisseur of teen-drama TV. 


Laren McClung is the author of a collection of poems, Between Here and Monkey Mountain (Sheep Meadow Press), and editor for the anthology Inheriting the War: Poetry and Prose by Descendants of Vietnam Veterans and Refugees, forthcoming from W.W. Norton in 2017. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from New York University. Her awards include fellowships from Teachers & Writers Collaborative, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus in Schwandorf, Germany. She has led yearlong writing workshops to residents at Goldwater Hospital on Roosevelt Island; to veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; and she has taught in the Prison Education Program. Her work has appeared in journals and reviews including Poetry, Massachusetts Review, Harvard Review, PN Review, The American Reader, among othersShe teaches at New York University and lives in Bucks County where she is the current Poet Laureate.  

Bernadette McBride is author of three poetry collections. Her poems have appeared in the UK, in numerous U.S. journals and anthologies, and on PRIs The Writer’s Almanac with Garrison Keillor. A former Bucks County Poet Laureate, she is a three-time Pushcart Prize nominee, won second place for the International Ray Bradbury Writing Award, and was a runner-up for the Robert Fraser Poetry Prize. For many years, she taught creative writing at Temple University, currently teaches writing and literature at Bucks County Community College and leads various writing workshops in the Bucks County and Philadelphia region.
